Hope and Refusal in an Era of Criminalised Care: Responses to Pirate Care
Supported by the BSA Theory Study Group
3 March 2026 (7-8pm GMT)
Online
About the Event
Pirate Care: Acts Against the Criminalization of Solidarity contends that, today, our movements for collective liberation are increasingly defined by the calling to care for one another in defiance of the state and capital. From volunteer rescue boats in the Mediterranean to underground labs preparing gender-affirming hormones, people are reclaiming the means to care for one another in defiance of a system that devalues and exploits us.
Since its publication a year ago, Pirate Care is even more relevant as we witness, around the world, people rising up to defend one another from fascism, austerity and the cruel politics of disposability. We are practicing insurgent forms of care that courageously defy their laws and show the path to a better world.
Join us on March 3 (7pm GMT) for an online discussion of Pirate Care by Valeria Graziano, Marcell Mars, Tomislav Medak. This event will launch a book review symposium published in the Postdigital Science and Education Journal, with contributions from Ioana Cerasella Chis, Aria Danaparamita, Panos Theodoropoulos, Esther Planas Balduz, Arianna Introna, Joseph Davison, Lena Wånggren, Wilson Sherwin, Birgan Gokmenoglu, and Kirsten Forkert.
The event will be on the Zoom platform. We will hear from organizers and thinkers whose perspectives are published in the symposium publication as well as from the authors, and discuss the future of our struggles.
