Are you a student thinking about university? Maybe you are interested in sociology but want to know more about your career options or transferrable skills? Could you be a teacher of sociology looking for material to help promote your discipline in school or at open days? If you are any of the above, then 'Discover Sociology' may be able to help.

Discover Sociology is a new learning resource designed to help raise the profile of sociology and inspire more students to consider the discipline as a career choice. As well as giving a general introduction to the subject, the booklet has been designed to:

  • highlight the skills on offer to those who choose to study sociology
  • provide advice about the potential career paths available to those with a sociology degree
  • showcase some of the many different areas that sociology students have chosen to research

The booklet also contains real-life case studies from sociology students, past and present, talking about their studies and what they have gone on to achieve, while there is also a useful listing of UK colleges and universities that offer undergraduate sociology courses.

"We have been desperately looking for something professional like this - it really does help to 'professionalise' the image of Sociology. Thank you so much to the team who worked on putting this together - great job!"
Natalie Davison, Queen Elizabeth School, Cumbria

"The information on skills is really useful for UCAS. Great information provided, the booklet makes sociology ‘contemporary’ rather than historic (normally what the students initially think)."
Katy Blackburn, Sociology Teacher, Loreto College, Manchester
