Understanding the Scottish Present through the Sociological Lens
A BSA Scottish Sociology Study Group Symposium
27 June 2025 (10am-4.30pm BST)
Abertay University, Dundee
Call for Abstracts
The theme of the symposium will be ‘Understanding the Scottish Present through the Sociological Lens.’
We invite submissions from scholars to present their research that helps our understanding of the Scottish present - including drawing upon the insights of historical sociology - through the sociological lens. We invite contributions from scholars researching the sociology of Scotland and doing sociology in Scotland. We welcome a wide range of research topics as the purpose of the day is to afford participants an overview of current research being done in Scotland. This will be an opportunity for researchers to explore and deepen our thinking around well-established areas of research as well as emerging research areas.
Each speaker will be allocated 30 minutes (20 minutes presentation, 10 minutes open discussion). Presenters will have the option of either facilitating or participating in the follow-up discussion.
Please send your abstracts (up to 250 words) to Paul Gilfillan by Friday, 30 May 2025.
This event is aimed at researchers and students at any stage in their career.
A timetable of the day including details of a main speaker will be published in due course. After the event there will be an opportunity to network and socialise in the evening.
