Storying Hope in an Age of Climate Anxiety
A BSA Postgraduate Forum Regional Event
15 May 2025 (9:30am-4:30pm BST)
Loughborough University (East Midlands Campus), UK
About the Event
Climate anxiety is a growing concern. Feelings of being overwhelmed by the enormity of climate change can hinder positive action. To address this, our event centres on fostering hope and climate action by exploring innovative ways to narrate stories of hope in the face of climate challenges.
The event offers an enriching day of interdisciplinary engagement, targeted primarily at Postgraduate Researchers based in the East Midlands working on climate-related topics. Participants will leave with:
- Practical storytelling skills for turning their research into hopeful narratives.
- New perspectives from sociology, geography, media and communications, and beyond, aimed at sparking impactful public engagement.
- Connections with peers and experts across disciplines to build their research and career pathways.
Our activities include:
- A keynote presentation to set the stage (Prof Julie Doyle, University of Brighton)
- Two workshops, building storytelling basics and crafting individual narratives (Loughborough Storytelling Academy)
- An interactive panel featuring interdisciplinary insight from Dr Katie Parsons, Prof Julie Doyle, and Prof Michael Wilson.
