About the Event
What does it mean to be mid-career in sociology today?
Join us for an open, energising conversation where we’ll begin to shape the first Mid-Career Forum Manifesto, a shared statement of our values, challenges, and collective ambitions.
This event is for anyone who finds themselves between early career and senior leadership, or who wants to help make the mid-career stage more visible, supported, and sustainable. Together, we’ll discuss what matters most to us as sociologists at this point in our professional lives, from workload and wellbeing to leadership, collaboration, and recognition.
Participants will be invited to contribute ideas in advance through a live Padlet (link shared with all registered attendees), and to join us online for a collaborative session that brings those ideas to life.
The contributions will inform the Forum’s public manifesto and future activities within the BSA.
The conversation will be hosted by Dr Kathryn McEwan (Northumbria University) and Dr Saorfhlaith Burton (Robert Gordon University), co-convenors of the BSA Mid-Career Forum, alongside BSA Trustees including Prof Angharad Beckett, Dr Mark Doidge, and others who are keen to hear your perspectives and strengthen the Forum’s community.
Come along to:
- Connect with others navigating the mid-career stage.
- Share honest reflections on what helps and what hinders progress.
- Help shape how the BSA supports sociologists at this pivotal stage.
This is a relaxed, participatory space - you can contribute as much or as little as you like. All welcome.
