Annual Medical Sociology Conference 2016

The 48th BSA Medical Sociology Conference was successfully held at Aston University in Birmingham from the 7-9 September.

This year, research was presented by 159 colleagues to a fascinated audience of 293 delegates; 20 poster presentations were shown during the drinks reception on the first day; and seven symposia/special events - Cost of Living Symposium and the MedSoc Committee Event - were hosted along with our two plenary speeches by Nick Watson and Davina Allen.  The study group’s postgraduate representatives held an ECR workshop on 6 September welcoming and helping postgraduate students and early career researchers with questions on publishing.

The feedback recieved was very positive and included statements like ‘MedSoc has always been one of the friendliest and most collegiate events. Coupled with the high quality of papers and the conference disco - it is a must attend event!’ and ‘Friendly, supportive conference. My favourite!’

Whilst the conference was taking place, Ewen Speed stepped down as co-convenor of the MedSoc study group after 6 years and Sasha Scambler took over. A huge thank you goes to Ewen for all of his hard work and a welcome goes to Sasha.

We thank everyone who attended and helped and we look forward seeing you next year.
