About the Event

The theme of the symposium will be ‘Exploring how sociology is being done in and about Scotland’. Scholars from PhD students to established Professors will present research that helps our sociological understanding of Scotland and/or that exhibits the range of work being done by sociologists in Scotland.

The symposium also aims to show the importance of different theoretical perspectives, methodological innovations and original empirical research covering Scotland's past, present and future.

Keynote Speaker

The keynote speaker will be the BSA President, Professor Les Back, speaking on New Ethnicities, Old Racisms in Glasgow.
