Digital Sociology Now

A BSA Digital Sociology Study Group Event

22 January 2027 (10:00-15:00 GMT)
MediaCity, University of Salford, UK

About the Event

As digital sociologists, we’re up against many new normals: AI, university funding crises, governance by oligarchy. The systems we study are becoming more complex and socioeconomically entangled, and the context within which we research is becoming less viable and more precarious. We feel it’s time to convene as a study group and imagine where we want to go together.

This event aims to open up discussion about contemporary issues in the field, innovative methods, provide opportunities to network and to plan for future priorities. We hope this will provide a valuable opportunity for digital sociologists to come together and shape the future agenda and actions of the study group.

Over lunch, colleagues are welcome to bring any material tech as objects of subversion/reclaiming digital practices and futures to discuss in a type of makers/users show-and-tell. Please bring in anything you have been, or might be interested in, working with for discussions around the potential for digital scholars to generate socio-digital futures.
