The BSA congratulates Professor Henrietta O’Connor on her appointment as Head of the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities at the University of Leicester. She was appointed after acting in the role on an interim basis.
Professor O’Connor, who is a trustee of the BSA, is also Chair of the Equality and Diversity Committee at Leicester.
She has been Head of Department of the Centre for Labour Market Studies and Deputy Head of the School of Management. She has also held posts as Sub-Dean of Graduate Studies and a Director of Postgraduate Research.
Her principal research interests are the sociology of work, in particular transitions to and from the labour market.
She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and an Academic Fellow of
Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. As well as being a trustee, her work for the BSA has included chairing the Editorial Board of the journal Sociological Research Online, and sitting on the Editorial Board of Sociology.
Professor O’Connor said: “I’m delighted to be formally appointed to the role of Head of College and I am looking forward to continuing to work with staff and students in the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities and across the university.
“My priority will be to ensure that the college continues to excel in research and teaching in social sciences, arts and humanities within and beyond the institution.”
