Ageing Study Group

Contexts, manifestations and experiences of ageing are heterogenous and intimately entwined with broader social forces, practices, institutions and technologies. The Ageing study group seeks to understand ageing as a social entity, process and discourse, informed by intersectional inequalities and uneven geographies. We provide a forum for the disciplinary sociology of ageing, as well as for people who are interested in social scientific work that attends to age, agedness, ageing through mid and later life, and older people in multiple forms.

The group seeks to engage with and showcase the diversity of work on ageing across sociology, with the aim of broadening, troubling and enriching understandings of ageing. We also advocate for greater attention to and interest in ageing across different areas of sociology, inviting researchers, practitioners and academics to revisit and explore the age-related dimensions of their work.
