Citizenship Study Group

In the light of its recent proliferation, Citizenship Studies has increasingly been established as a distinctive academic field of study that gains its particular strength by drawing upon concepts not only from Sociology, but also from the other traditional Social Sciences including Politics, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, and so on.

Although Citizenship Studies crosses a number of existing themes covered by other BSA study groups, a proliferation of events focused on citizenship suggests the need to recognise it as a sociological field of study in its own right. Indeed, this could provide an important outlet for postgraduate and early career researchers interested in this field, as well as established academics, to come together, discuss and share their perspectives from different (sub)disciplines. In the process, this would make a crucial case for the importance of doing and engaging with Citizenship Studies, as well as secure its continued salience in academia and beyond.
