Applied Qualitative Health Research (AQHR) Special Interest Group

With the increasing acceptance of qualitative methods and the growing popularity of mixed methods designs, qualitative evaluations are now a routine component of much applied health research, accepted both by funders and clinical research teams. Consequently, many medical sociologists now work as part of (large) multidisciplinary teams conducting qualitative research, or are called upon to provide specialist training to enable others to conduct AQHR. While these qualitative studies are necessary and important in applied health research, their practical enactment is not always straightforward and working in this context presents complex challenges.
