Society, Materiality and the More-than-Human
An international seminar series from the BSA New Materialisms Study Group
24 May 2022 (15:00-16:00 BST)
About the Event
Following the success of our international seminars in 2021, we are pleased to announce a further series of UK and international speakers, featuring a mix of online and face-to-face presentations. The speakers are united by their focus on the more-than-human, and will provide us with much food for thought as we pursue our interest in post-anthropocentric and posthuman scholarship.
Seminar 1 - Nonhuman matters/Nonhumans matter: Plants, food systems and the production of health
Speaker: Dr Sarah Elton (Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada)
Sarah Elton is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the newly re-named Toronto Metropolitan University, and founding director of the Food Health Ecosystems Lab. She researches the human-ecosystems-health nexus in the city through the study of produce supply chains, urban gardens, and one of our most intimate sites of the social production of health: the human gut microbiome.
All seminars are free to attend, however, registration is required.
